The SAR How to host a scholar handbook is useful resource - https://www.scholarsatrisk.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/SAR-How-to-Host-Handbook.pdf

Regarding Russian scholars I just recently saw this quote by Elena Kudryashova, Rector of the Arctic University, "Liberating Ukraine from nationalist dirt is our historical duty." Here is the full publication: https://thebarentsobserver.com/en/life-and-public/2022/04/liberating-ukraine-nationalist-dirt-our-historical-duty-says-arcticThe public stance that Russian academics and students have taken is their choice, but they should be responsible for that choice as rightly put by the authors of the NotJustPutin campaign: https://twitter.com/notjustputin/status/1511650924573331462?s=21&t=9a1hDHVT8-8NpXDQoMakBw

If someone is interested in supporting scholars in Poland, I will be happy to connect people/institutions.Zmazur@polin.pl or WhatsApp +48 790521066

@Artem, I assume that the programs target scholars no longer affiliated with the universities supporting Putin. Many colleagues prostrated against war and were fired/forced to quit their jobs.

01:01:17
@Artem, How to take a free of charge Duolingo English test? Is every scientist in Ukraine able to take this test for free?

01:03:17
@Volodymyr, I hope so. I know that there are not many people in Russia who are not imperialists, who want Crimea to get back under Ukraine’s control, who want Russia to become a normal country.

01:06:24
@Olena, the Ukrainian Global University has a special arrangement with Duolingo.

01:07:00
Just a friendly reminder to everyone that you're welcome to post questions in the chat.

01:08:38
Thank you for the answer. How the scientist can take this Duolingo test through the Ukrainian Global University? Is it only for program participants or all Ukrainian scientists are allowed to take it?

01:09:34
Question for Kate - can individual or institutions donate money to fund scholars who are on the waiting list?

01:09:54

01:09:58
Can I make a quick comment on remote options and the issues with that at our institution

01:11:03
Thank you.

01:11:32
Keith, an interesting fact on the backpack in Ukrainian and Russian, in fact, “рюкзак” is a transliteration of a German word “Rucksack”. We have an authentic Ukrainian word for backpack - “наплічник”.

01:12:47
thank you everyone. very helpful

01:12:57
Are there any questions in the zoom-room about the logistics of creating positions at universities for displaced scholars or the remote support for scholars and students in the region?

01:13:18
Similarly: For Artem Shaipov. Greetings. Can calls for graduate applicants to fully funded positions be posted without an MOU? At University of Illinois at Chicago, we have worked across departments to secure 15+ funded positions that are open for grad applicants (MA/PhD) (application deadline extended indefinitely for the Fall term); but we are not able to sign an MOU at this time due to UIC bureaucracy. Are you able at this time to post open positions for potential applicants without UIC formally signing an MOU?

01:13:21
Quick comment -- the International Task Force for Displaced Scholars will be holding breakout sessions on May 6 to troubleshoot problem areas like those discussed today on a detailed level. You can sign up for the ITFDS here (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSckl4-65O5_9s6Z4Th-baTYUBnj_NmCKTLUT2fyQgaosOsxRw/viewform) and view notes from our previous meeting here (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CKdX_Z_SiVGXvLdPjXSB-qoY7gwxtyOOwxL1GU-FON8/edit).

01:13:22
For Artem - Is the UGU program only for undergraduate students? Or does it include graduate students, post-docs, or even faculty?

01:13:52
I see this is being recorded. Where can we access the recording later?

01:14:30
The recording will be posted here when ready - https://www.aseees.org/resources/help-displaced-scholars-ukraine

01:14:57
Colleagues, thank you so much for this workshop. It is extremely helpful. I have to run, but wanted to alert everyone to an all-day webinar next Friday, April 29, featuring 27 speakers giving “mini-lectures” of 10-12 minutes each. We are raising money for the Shevchenko Emergency Fund supporting fellowships for Ukrainian scholars, writers, and artists. Email me at m.dobczansky@shevchenko.org with questions. https://shevchenko.org/upcoming_event/shevchenko-expertise-a-thon-for-ukraine/

01:15:41
@Park, the Ukrainian Global University is for the whole range of students and scholars.

01:18:09
yes!

01:22:28
Thank you all so very much for this information and the practical suggestions from those actively working outside the university bureaucracies!
